Default Pricing Advice

My boss has asked me to come up with brochure pricing...I'm not a freelancer and this isn't primarily a design company...we just offer some advertising. Any suggestions...per hour, flat rate, etc.???

Always hard to answer these questions because of the different economies and the fact that people don't like to outprice themselves.

I'd say 90 dollars an hour for brochure design.

Flat-rate $400.00 is what we charge. But since you're offering it for basic advertising, going under $200.00 could be a bad idea. Brochures can be a headache and so can the people you do them for.

I own my company design firm with my husband. Why? Is that excessive in cost for a brochure? We started out charging $250.00 in the mid-90s and have slowly moved our prices up.

A good rule of thumb is if you work out of your home, your overhead is much less in cost, so charge less, but if you lease or rent a building, charge a little more.

No, $400 sounds fine...I was just wondering because my place of business isn't a design firm, but we are going to offer advertising. I am currently the only designer, so my boss came to me. I don't have much experience with pricing yet.

That's right....you work with the homes website. I didn't notice that when you first asked.

I currently design brochures and flyers for realtors and brokers. My fee for a simple brochure (tri-fold) with photos and bullet points of info on their home is $250.00. The flyer design (initially) is $150.00 but if the same flyer is utilized for each home, it would be a $45.00 fee for putting the photos and bullet points on the flyer (2-sided).

Hope this helps out more.

The hometown resource website is for listing homes, and for local businesses to advertise... the brochures would also be for these businesses.

I though of charging one flat fee for a basic brochure, with the client providing pictures, text, etc.
If we had to find or take pictures, or do any copy writing, the price would be higher...

...does this make sense?

Yes, that makes total sense. We charge $75.00 per hour for photos and if we travel more than 20 miles, we charge mileage too (there and back). We also have a 1 hour minimum for our photography.
