Default business card help

hey guys. I've been asked to design a business card for a friend. it's for an auto detailing business. Unfortunately, I've never done a business card, so I'm asking for your help. I guess i need to know some of the required standards. such as dimensions and ppi. should i make the graphic using illustrator? I feel more comfortable with photoshop.

any help/pointers would be appreciated. cheers

You can make the business card with either Illy or PS. Most print companies require a card that is 3.625x2.125 (either direction). Make sure that your text stays back from the edge all around. And 300 DPI is standard.

We don't use mm in the U.S. : )

Also an odd size for a newbie is gonna get you nothing but trouble. I'd stick with the standard size until you've gone to press a few times. Nothing link losing money because the file you submitted won't work. Just my opinion.

Really?! What's your standard unit of measure then? Inches?

I personally use Pica's over inches when I'm doing the layout of a book, but inches is the standard here.

yeah, i don't want to play around with sizes. For now, I'll just to stick to the standard size.

I'm going to try to get some ideas going tonight. I'll post what i come up with. He told me what he wants the logo to look like. it's a pretty simple logo, and not something i would have done, but i guess i gotta do what he wants
