i purchased an image i want to use as part of the design. before i purchased it i made sure it was 300dpi. when i open it in photoshop i get a warning message that reads "this document contains Adobe Photoshop data which appears to be damaged. Continue or ignore the PS data?". I've never seen that before. Both PS and Adobe Bridge both say the image is 72dpi. Also, the file size before download is 1.8 mb. after download it's 487 Kb. I emailed the support people and they said it is 300dpi, just change the resolution to 300dpi in PS. That sounds a bit sketchy to me. I need to know for sure that this image is 300dpi before i move on

You can't just make an image larger or interpolate it. It will make the image fuzzy and pixelated (of course most of you know that already). It sounds like it downloaded improperly and damaged the file. The company you purchased it from should allow you to redownload again. Damaging a file in download can occur when you connection or their connection is interrupted.

Hope you can get it back.

some notes

I wasn't crazy about the logo, but my client likes it. I need to make the title of the business more evident. the title is "Elite Automobile Dealer Services". Right now I feel it looks like 4 random words. the website on there is fake. I think my biggest problem is working with the image. It's a vertical image and obviously a horizontal layout. I added the blue circles to make the words "Elite" and "Services" stand out more.

thoughts?

dash...I actually read the name as Elite Services...Dealer & Automobile. Why not make the name in one line and allow the car to be seen more. I'm not thrilled with your black areas on the side of the car either. It's breaking up the card too much. I understand that it is a vertical image......do you have any others?

If not, I would make the card vertical and do the name in 2 lines at the top and open up the photo.

Just stay within 3mm of the edge.

yeah. keep close from the edge. there are some great books on this sort of thing. even if its just to rob an quick front layout. With business cards, keep it simple. Understatement truly is power with it. You can go down to about 8pt with major text and even down to 7 if your using the right font (ie somethign legible.) its worth printing it out to scale to text this as you start out.
