Default Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator

Can I use Adobe Photoshop to create vector images and illustrated images, or do you recomend Adobe Illustrator for these tasks?

What do you all think about Corel Draw?

Thanks for your advice! :)

Illustrator is the best to learn how to do vector correctly although there are vector options with PS now

i think that if PS was meant to be used for vector they wouldnt have made Illustrator cs3. i personally find it easier to work in PS, save it as a jpg and imoprt it to freehand to trace but thats only because my knowledge of PS is greater than Freehand which in turn is greater than Illustrator but im working on that!

freehand is the vector tool for me - will also be working on illustrator, but seen as you mention coreldraw i've seen that today in action and it looks pretty nifty, can't say i've ever used it properly though - i had at one point on my windows box

Go for Illustrator, it's the best out there for vector stuff, in my opinion.
Corel Draw...not so used lately, maybe a bit old. Not bad to know some, but I still recommend Creative Suite.

Wow! No one else here uses the paths in PS to export. Retracing is a lot of work in Illy from a JPEG.

For straight up vector work, I prefer Illy, but I use PS to trace things manually and then export my paths to Illy.

Very funny Tommy : )

But seriously, doing paths in PS and then exporting is great because PS can handle the photo size much better than Illy. But I've been using Illy since '88, so it's always been my favorite.
