Just had a look through some of my old sites and thinking about bringing them up to date when I get the time.
A major issue I've noticed is since most browsers (IE7 and Firefox) use tabbed browsing, the "target="_blank" command I used to use to open a smaller sub window to display things now opens in a new tab and shrinks the whole window which defeats the object of using it as a pop up. Is there a way round this. Example

**** Additional FEATURES for popup **** 'toolbar=yes, location=yes, status=yes, menubar=yes, scrollbars=yes, resizable=yes ***** Thats a standard JavaScript call for a popup.. I have personally gotten away from popups all together if I can avoid it. I find that more visitors depart when you start popping up new windows..

When I use target="_blank" in IE7 it still opens in a new window. I want it to do the exact opposite of what Toon wants, I would rather it open in a new tab. Must be a setting in IE I haven't looked for yet.

Opening in a new tab is a "right-click" function. The rest of it depends on the personal settings in the end users IE7 settings located in Tools-->Internet Options-->General-->Tabs-->Settings
I have introduced the question to MSDN and my Microsoft Partner Program sites. We're not the only ones looking for this, I promise. The common coutesy rule as of now is to NOT use target_blank. Allow the end user to come back if they choose. If you steer them in the right direction, they will come back for more. MS is aware of this and wants to create the flexibilty to allow this function, but as of right now, it is up to the end user how to handle new tabs. If I hear anything, I will post it.
