Default What size for logo?

I'm about to try my hand at my first ever logo and I've hit a stumbling block already - what size do you design it at? Does it matter? And what size do you send it to your client?

Anyone got any tips for me before I start off and do it all wrong?

what i do is in illy i make a 800 px by 800 px canvas zoom in to 100% then design the logo to the size you want your client might suggest a size for the logo then when you export to picture it will crop accordingly

If you design in Illustrator I usually start with a 1000px X 1000 px board then it can be resized to whatever you want. If it's photoshop you've got to keep to the size intended. Usually an A4 board is good start unless it is going to be used in signs.

defo do it in illy so you can resize it, photoshop is a bad idea for logos and some effects you use within it are difficult to recreate in print when you make them much smaller. And for obvious reasons cant go much larger than 115% maybe 125% if your lucky.

Just use an A4 size document and use half i would say

I normally work to A4 size, then resize if needed after (for display or whatever)

Although i don't make my logo's fill that as a rule, just leaves plenty of room for variations to be looked at

Most mistakes made in print layouts are made when people treat A4 and A3 as a pasteboard option, it makes no sense to have a rectangular starting point. Yes you can make it landscape if needed but why have to change orientation when starting with a square will save you from having 2 opitions.

sorry i don't get that one james, where did you get that from? i can't see what page size for logo design has got to do with print layouts - he hasn't even got the designing anything for print yet - plus when you print it has to be on a certain paper size, so whoever said that wants to be shot

bye, bye mr Aleksei Guerin ~ BANG!

Wasn't Aleksei Guerin the old guy that used to go on about how computers stun designers creativity?
