Default Newish to illustrator and the like...

and I'm having trouble coming up with a basic design concept for some work I've been comissioned to do outside of my normal job (although I'd have difficulty defining 'normal').

I'm not really a designer, and wouldn't want to insult you guys with some of my work, but I've been using photoshop for a few years, I look on in awe at people using illustrator....

I can see some of my ideas in my head but can never seem to realise them as I want them.

Now I'm working to a deadline, I've designed a basic flyer for my client, but its too basic - vector logo across the top, background fading from blue at the bottom to white at the top, photographic montage across the bottom - contact copy over laid, then main copy in the middle. But I think that a GCSE student could do better!

Stock images aren't quite giving me what I'm looking for...
Trying to promote training in customer service and the travel industries.. but I've got a right mental block.

Can anyone offer me any advice?

Cheers.

i'd put what you have got so far up, and let people take it on from there to be honest... much quicker in the long run.

i'm sure it's much better than you are letting on...

I would be careful designing a flyer in Illustrator. Photoshop will work better for you if you're incorporating photos. Photos in Illustrator are more difficult to manipulate than in Photoshop or layout software.

I'd also like to see what you've done. I've been using Illy since 1988 and I prefer it over Photoshop.

Well this one is in photoshop, and I now know (in my naivety) that the logo isn't vector - from the way its pixellated and gone a bit fuzzy around the edges....

The brief was....

A ‘corporate’ flyer that I will put on my stand at the B2B 2020 show. It will need to show some ‘training images’ along with ‘travel, events and hospitality’

Images from an employee point of view. I think it will be predominently images but with a small area for contact details and then some bullet points as to the type of corporate training I undertake such as:

§ Customer Service

§ Conflict Management

§ Sales

§ Presentation Skills

§ Time Management

§ Contact/Call Centre training

I'm using istock to source the images - being very aware of the issues with copyright of images....

So this is the rubbish I've come up with.....

To be fair, its a bit bland, the copy is a bit out, it doesnt say 'Travel Industry' at all.... and I've just been a bit stuck for inspiration.

There's not an awful lot wrong with. Points to improve on would be justifying the text and maybe a little spacing. Add an extra colours maybe say like orange sun and orange bullet points. I know they say 'A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words' but great typography can say alot as well. Look at the Hierarchy apart from the main logo all the type looks from a distance to be the same style and size which parts are you drawing the eye to to make people read the details?

are you tied to the dark blue for the SUN and ventura???

If not i'd look at a sky blue for the text and an orange for the sun.
