Unless you live completely in the sticks, most likely you have a local arts and community center or college that offers drawing classes a few nights a week, life drawing or still lifes for example.
You can vastly improve upon your skills by enrolling in such classes and focusing all your energy on what they have to offer. As with anything in life, if you work hard at it, you will most definitely improve. You'll only get as much out of it as you are willing to put into it though.
Beyond pencil and charcoal you have all your other mediums... acrylics, oils, water colours. etc. etc.
After trying them all out you will quickly figure out which ones you like best. Even if at the end of the day the majority of your work is done on the computer, a good foundation of drawing and painting (illustration) is invaluable.
Good luck to you!
