I would even suggest taking some figure drawing classes, or (like Sidekick said) get some figure drawing books. Burne Hogarth has some great books that, in my opinion, are some of the best out there.

I agree with the previous post to be a designer doesn't necessarily mean you are an illustrator it help a lot but not completely necessary and i think anyone can teach themselves the fundamentals of drawing which would help more then you would think.

I think I'm over my head atm...
I have a great interest for all types of digital art:
Illustration, design, layout, photomanipulation, photo etc... So my dream is to master all of them :P I really, really, really want to show myself in all types of art, and not just one...

So I guess I would have to master drawing as well, so it might help :P

Hope you don't think I'm nuts now...

Some of the best illustrators in the world cannot draw AT ALL. They're success comes in that their distorted, mis-proportionate, 2d, characters are skewed, surreal, even realistic depictions f certain types of ppl/monsters... in terms of making it in illustration, the age OF NEEDING to be able to draw conventionally, is some what over,,,

oo i smell my first real blog article

I totally disagree. You can draw beautiful mascot's for example, without the real life proportions but still, those "wrong" proportions will look terrible if you don't master the real proportions first. Take a look at Loomis drawings of disproportioned mascots.

Sure you can do anything these days on a computer but still you need a little more.
My advice is start drawing, is not so hard. Begin with the stick figure and draw draw draw. Maybe you will find out you are really good and this will help you in everything print, webdesign, logos and more.
And don't forget the law of the three P's: practice practice practice!

I believe Acuity meant that some of the best artists can't draw by hand (pencil & paper). I sort of agree with what are you saying.. but when you say draw draw draw, I say do in Illy. You don't need paper. Choose your medium and master it.

no problem dude.. Just saying, I don't know many artists who excel in portrait oil paint AND mechanical drawing. Apples & oranges. Both were requirements at my art school, but mastery of both was discouraged.
