Hello all,
I was wondering whether anybody could help me with my new logo. As a journalist, I have little or no talent when it comes to designing, but I thought I'd have a stab in the dark and save some money by creating my logo myself. It is for my latest venture, Whitley Golf, a site that, in a nutshell, gives golfers across the world everything they need to improve - and I was aiming for a simple, clean-cut corporate golf logo... I would appreciate it greatly if anyone could give me some advice on how I could change this draft that I knocked up quickly on the GIMP and please note that I understand how easy it was to make and how mind blowing it isn't. Thank you in advance for any comments :) Joe Whitley http://whitleyjournalism.co.uk Whitley Golf Logo Draft One:

Thanks for the advice, Troy. As I said it took me about five minutes (including waiting ages for the GIMP to load) but I understand exactly what you mean.
Thanks again :)

I think you should make the golf ball the focus of your logo. If you are going to use an image in your logo, it will be something people will associate your company or website with, so creating a nicely drawn golf ball will work out well for you in the end. It's like how you can see firefox's fox wrapped around a globe and immediately associate that with Mozilla.
Consider working with vector graphics either in Flash or Illustrator to draw your golf ball or try finding someone who can help you with the image and give you pointers. There are plenty of tutorials around the web for either program if you'd still like to take a stab at doing it yourself. Also, I'd consider revising your font. Use something cleaner and less toony. If the image and layout of your site is playful, than a font such as this does work for you but from your description I am assuming you'd want something more corporate-looking. A font which is not as bubbly would work better in my opinion. To give you a better idea of what I mean when it comes to the type style look at these two images (these logos were not created by me): ![]() The type used in all those samples is a lot cleaner and more mature looking than these which are logos aimed at children's products or more comical websites: ![]() I hope that helped. I am no logo expert, but those are the more immediate things I saw which you could easily change. |
