I can keep this up all day and have barely scratched the surface.
However, if you are looking to invest in a set of fonts to progress your design career, there's really only one solid choice and that is to purchase a copy of the Adobe Type Library. This will give you the full range of classic standards that are the core of good usable type. Yes it is expensive, but with 2300 fonts at $2599 for a 5 cpu license, that's only a little more than $1 a font which makes it an incredible deal considering a lot of the fonts included cost hundreds of dollars each if bought individually.
