Using the "more" tag cuts off posts as you want. But it also cuts off in your RSS feeds too (maybe you want that as well).

Another way of getting similar results is to open the index.php of your WP theme folder and find php 'the_content' and replace it with 'the_excerpt'. This displays the first few hundred characters OR whatever you insert into the The Excerpt field in you post editor.

It gives you the option of creating an interesting teaser (and without even using the word Norks!)

The WP instructions and codex are clear and quite well written but it is pretty confusing if, like me, you have pretty much no interest in coding.

I think that the best way to learn to deal with Wordpress is to experiment and break as many themes as you can before finding out how it all works.

Yeah, I tend to learn better from tinkering with bits and bobs as opposed to from reams of documentation.
