We are a space exploration company and it seems it is easier to build a rocket than it is to build a decent website. Here is what I am looking for, a talented person or person who can help me with the site, the graphic art for all the press releases and such. In return, we'll splash your work all over the world, and your name will ride aboard the body of the rocket. Of course you get to come to the launch on us.
We are competing in the N-Prize (The Official Site for the N-Prize) so we have a lot going on right now. Your work will reach an average of 40,000 people a day as that is the viewers our news service has, on somedays far far more.
A little bit about us, Generation Space and Microlaunchers are a private space company devoted to the open access and low cost approach to space.

As you can see from our website THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF GENERATION S we need quite a bit of help in the art department.

Hope some of you can spare some time and help us out.

It looks very jagged to me and has way too many bevels and effects to be a strong usable brand

I would always say hire a designer, it's ok doing somethings yourself but certain things are worth hiring a professional if you want your business to stand out.

It happened years ago with Microsoft Frontpage, all of a sudden every PC user thought they were a web designer, you ended up with an internet full of sites that....

1) Where poor aesthetically
2) They weren't built to any kind of web standards
3) They weren't searchable by seach engines
4) They appeared differently (often broken) in different browsers

Businesses on the net that stand out know they have to hire a professional who excels in their certain area to achieve this. Logo design is no different you can get a logo designer on the internet to design you a logo for $25 but it won't be a strong brand that will last over time, this is why people say, you get what you pay for.

Some good points above, you can tell how large a companies ambitions are by their marketing budget they spend each year. I guess you have to ask yourself what kind of budget you can afford and what sort of results you want at the end of it.
