You may have to describe a little bit more specifically what you are doing, because Kip's right... If you have an Illustrator file placed in Indesign (for example), you should be able to scale it without any problems. However, if you are exporting the .ai file into Photoshop, and then trying to make it bigger, you will get the pixelated look.

General rule of thumb is to not size an image up larger. Always start with a high resolution (like at least 300 dpi) and at the size you need it as. What kind of image are you starting with, and what is the size you want it at?

ah okay. thanks for the reply kip and jeffross.. uhm, because some situations gives me headache..like giving me a hard time when an image which is scaled to Height= 3 in by Width= 12 in and reso 150dpi.. that type of file is in TIFF format.. resizing them into 40x30cm with a resolution of 300dpi that i am aiming at.. i know the only thing is i cant compromise this..last option is to make a new one.. anyway thanks for the "rule of the thumb" :)

Yeah, sounds like you may need to reshoot or somehow start with a bigger image. If you ever have to change any image size/document size settings, just make sure you have the "Resample Image:" unchecked.

Good luck!

also, resampling in small increments helps reduce (not eliminate) jaggedness. If i need to resize larger, i set an action that scales in 5% increments.
