Default better large scale resizing down for web

Folks,

Any techniques on going from:

a whopping 2266 x 3368 at 240dpi to 158 x 233 at 72dpi?

I have several standard techniques, such as using bicubic smoothing. Or creating a duplicate layer of the image as a low %age transparent overlay.

anyone have any other suggestions?

are you not maintaining enough detail on the resample? You may consider a png32. Others might have better suggestions. I'll be waiting to see as well.

If it's for the web, that fact you're dropping that far will always mean loss of detail. I mean you're effectively taking 10 pixels and making into 1. There are some programs that do this in stages, so instead of doing it in one leap, try doing it in two or three and compare the difference...

Tommy, what program is that? My PS says png24 and that's as high as it goes.
