Default aligning objects along a curve in illustrator

Hi Everyone,

Working in Illustrator CS2, I am trying to exactly align and evenly space a bunch of same sized circles to the edge / perimeter of a larger ellipse. How I do this simply?

The circles are just basic ones created with the ellipse tool, they're only unique quality is that they are a compound object because they have holes in them. The ellipse is a basic ellipse.

Attached is a screen shot of my work:

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

there should be a way to make the circles into a brush so that all you have to do is add the circle pattern as a stroke to your outer circle...

Default right on!

Thank you drewbie!

I needed to be directed to the right palette...

first off, you have to Expand it (object, expand)
then when you drag it into the brushes palette, you need to select it as a pattern brush and not the others. And it needs to have spacing added within that brushes' options, otherwise it won't space out evenly.

see the arrowed object shows a curve with no fill and the brush selected as the outline.

yay for drewbie!
