poster

hi,
I've had to design a poster for a short film i'm making as part of my A levels, i've uploaded it to my flickr account - 0116 - they know, im from leicester on Flickr - Photo Sharing! - basically i knocked it up in about 20 minutes using paint.net and wondered what you thought? please be kind as i'm not really a graphic designer!

I agree with EP, definately needs something...more. Hmmmmmm.

Perhaps because of its sparse nature, you can experiment more with putting the title off center (it looks slightly to the left anyway, maybe because of the gradient). Drag the gradient up into the corner, too. Pay attention to the Rule of Thirds when positioning it, too. I think a sans serif font might benefit the text more. Hmmm.... maybe Optima. You'll need something with a little flair, but I don't think a serif is quite appropriate. For whatever face you choose, make sure to watch the kerning between your numbers; usually they are spaced out a little much when there is a group of them next to each other, as in your title. Now that I think about it... the title could be kind of creepy, almost 1984-ish. If so, Futura would be a nice choice for a font (I'm thinking this version).

Hi,
Is the Opera graphic an already running ad that you're picking up on? If not, my thought was that the spotlight and text should be dead center vert/horiz. and I agree as well about going sans serif, I would try a computer-ish font...scifi-ish font. to make it look time space travel. Look at the font on the top left of this page, maybe not quite this one but that idea?:

If the red refers to something, that's good, but to bolster it up a bit, maybe a blue might work better? Don't know, but
nice concept overall.

@pateeg - no i made that opera poster thingy right after i made this just for a bit of a time killer.

yeah that'd be cool, i'm going to give it a try although i doubt i'll be able to create the same effects using paint.net!
