Default Please check out my new website.

Hi All,

I'm still cleaning up the code in the background, as I put this website together rather quickly and wasn't thinking to much about validation etc, but I'm more interested in what you think of the general layout. I used a lot of photography in the layout and this may slow the site down, but I'm trying to advertise photography at the same time.

Anyway any thoughts on typography, layout, use of images etc would be much appreciated.

Well some very nice aspects to this one - especially the quality of many of the images...

I feel like it could do with a touch of flash though (you have it on your site as a service) - perhaps the large semi-transparent wording (web design, photography etc) scrolling right to left?

Nice work overall though, keep it up mister!

Overall it looks very nice, Dan! I have a few suggestions:

1. Don't use justified text. It creates really bad gaps, especially see the third column (right most).

2. Perhaps this is more work than it's worth, but I think it would love really snazzy to add a translucent white box with a thin white stroke (perhaps with rounded corners!) behind the text--three of them, one for each column--similar to the dark bar you have for the navigation.

3. Really picky: Its should be It's (apostrophe), first column, first paragraph, first word under the web design sample. It's really picky, I know.

4. Lancashire, which country? Not all of us live in the UK ;)

5. Add some kind of roll over effect to the navigation so we can tell when we're hovering over a link (something besides the cursor change). Add an underline or something like that.

6. I really like that text effect in each section (section name is in black in the header). Perhaps you want to center it? The Graphic Design one looks funny to me because it's almost wide enough to touch both edges but it doesn't quite and it looks like a mistake. It looks ok for shorter titles like Portfolio, though.

Overall, great job! You have some beautiful, bright, fun photographs. I think you're choices for those are top notch. Your site design is sophisticated, "designerly" and professional.

I hope my suggestions help make it that much better :)

Yes thanks for that, all good advice. I do need to do some sort of subtle rollover. I know what you mean about the 'Graphic Design' title nearly going right across. I like picky aswell, getting the grammar right is very important.

Now I'm about to check out your blog!

Many Thanks
Dan
