Highly reminiscent of Jeff Fischer's logomotives logo. The different color for the "S" doesn't make much sense, unless the name is S Station or Station S.
If it makes me think of Jeff Fisher and not the company it's for, it doesn't do much as a business identity. In all, while a train works for a company called Logo Motives I think it misses with Station. With station, you might want to look at the side view of a train. And then incorporate elements other than the train to suggest "station." Also, try to come up with some real business the logo would be for. Beyond the name, what is the company supposed to do. What is the branding itself supposed to communicate? The logo as a graphic design exercise too often becomes an exercise in aesthetics, not identity communication. Oh sorry forgot to mention this is a real logo for a company called station, he he... Who deal with computer stuff for rails. & the requirmnets where as follows :-
Station™ (station.net.nz) is a start-up web host specializing in virtual private servers for Rails applications, based in New Zealand. Our target audience are reasonably tech savvy web site owners, and developers, looking for a local host for their new Rails app The logo will be used in print, so I’m looking for something simple, and should be on a white or light background, and consist of just black, white, and one spot colour in the Pantone range Feel free to include a slightly enhanced version for the web if you feel it’s required I’m not a big fan of web 2.0 design, that is, reflections, pastels, etc. I’m more after a classic look. Vector only " So it is tailor made to what info was provided to me. Here is another version :- LogoSauce™ - Station Logo Last edited by WAGraphicDesigns; 29-09-2007 at 10:49 PM. |

Nothing there says "Station" to me. Except the word station of course. Less emphasis on the train. From a quality P.O.V. it's fine though.

I would suggest trying to work something reminiscent of the rails logo behind the train. Still nothing suggests station.
If you feel it's tailor made for what was provided, go ahead and submit it. |

You've said many times you want simple, but I don't think that first train illustration is simple! It would not reduce down to half an inch very well (one of the marks of a good logo) because of the cow catcher (I think that's what it's called) and all its detailed lines.
The second one works better, but the area behind where it says Station is too busy/distracting. I think the blue part is an S on its side, but that's not clear and it makes reading the name Station difficult; figuring out what the blue is competes with reading the company name. Also, it's very straight. It could be a lot more exciting if you add some curves! Rails = Ruby on Rails right? Why not make the logo red? Also, it doesn't really say "technology" to me. Is that one of the requirements? |
