I prefer the first one, I like the colours and think it's simple yet effective. It's nice and stark, I think it has more impace than the second.

BTW, what files have you used for your pics in the second one? They seem to have compressed quite badly, I don't know if it's just the way that you're showing them?

oh do not worry about that brokendalek, I saved it poor quality on purpose just incase the client does not pay up - they get the high resolution one at the very end...

thanks for your comments too - i agree with you , client has gone with number two!

I actually think the second one is more effective. The tree going through the first one looks dead, so it gives a bad impression right away. While the second one looks much better, I think it also has nice white space in the design and is easier to read.

on the firt example, the background interferes too much with the text, which would make a very BAD choice. i agree with cwilk about the tree, i get what you are trying to do but that sort of concept rarely works on websites. thirdly, i would say the proportions of the site are unbalanced - the navigation buttons are way to big, which draws the eyes away from the text.

thanks for your comments, the client really pushed for large buttons, and on the left hand side too...!

definitely the first one, the city scape says IT to me more that the tree does. maybe try the city scape with the colours and layout of the other one? although i have to agree with bd, i do like the colours of the first one
:)
