Kids / Toddler website comp

Hey guys. I'm Stephanie and I am launching a website to promote my illustrated kids' characters and artwork. I'm gearing towards ages 4-10....but I'd like to think my designs are going to be appreciated by all ages, something like Blues Clues or Dora the Explorer spans across generations. It's all cutesy/ kawaii stuff but some of the characters are american-style cute.

Anyways....here is the 1st comp of the website. What do you think of the colors? Are they TOO babyish? What about the layout? It's not close to being done but I want to get off to the right start. Thanks!

I think the colors are kinda toddlerish..By age ten and even below boys are already into sports. race cars, and fighting. Girls are----I don't know what girls are doing..Pretending to be a super model or something?? But on the other hand 4 year olds are supposed to be into it too so I'd try to aim for something that would appeal to all within that age group. Its kind of a big age span (maturity wise) even though its only 6 yrs difference between 4-10.

It looks like it is for a younger younger age group than the range you are targeting. One of the beauties of a show like Dora the Explorer is the illustration and color (I have a friend with a 3 year old daughter, I have seen several episodes!). The site could benefit from more graphic elements than the single cookie. Perhaps by taking some visual clues from these Printables Dora the Explorer Activities and Printables | Nick Jr., like islands, trees or animals you can convey that sense of exploration and wonder that kids in your target age group adore.

It's funny, I did an illustration of all the animal characters in their outdoor environment and was going to animate it (having them blink, fly, swim, etc) and I first thought of using it for the homepage. then I thought it was too busy....but I'm forgetting that kids NEED busy, and they need fun stuff to look at and do. So I think I might revamp it. It's hard to design for teens then switch to kids' website! Anyways, thanks guys!
