that's the other one i was looking at, it's a good idea but not quite working at the minute.

maybe a little bit of shadow fro the pulled back corner to add a bit of depth???

I actually prefer the 1st one. It's not so uniform. When your logo can be different (not boxy) then it will stand out more. I also like it sans shadow.

The R looks enough like an R and subtlely like a piece of paper. I connect the paper to design.

I also love the colors.

I don't think it really matters if some people don't see the R till its pointed out to be honest, in fact it might even be considered a good thing
