I'm sorry, but the red/brown color is awful.. :S
Hello,
This is a design book cover.
I am very grateful to listen to any critique to improve this design much more.
Would you please comment on the style and the use of colour? Do you feel it is suitable or not? Is there anything that is need to be changed?
Thank you a lot for your help.
Regards,
Hung

well I think it depends on the theme and the target audience. As u see in general classical novels, it also has colour like brown/ red. But I 'll try more colours. I made this stuff long time ago, over 1 year or so
if we wanna target audience young, modern teen, which color do you think most suitable? thank you
The illustrator filter can be seen a mile away as a somewhat thoughtless approach. Why not try editing a photo, make a collage ,or draw something yourself.
With regards to colour. "a young man haunted by his past" would suggest dark to me. Black, very dark blues, maybe dark greys.

the spine is upside down. book spines always read top to bottom.
are you sure that's going to be the actual spine size?
The text is rather boring as is. But I am glad that it is not Hobo D like the other posts. I think you need to integrate the text and the image. Right now the text placement on the front is uninspired.
Everything is very stable and solid. I would try not using auto settings for text, use better leading and kerning.
This is simply my opinion...
Oh, I love that idea! As a teen myself, I suppose I know the area? Browns are not really eye-catching. I think a black/grey color scheme with a hint of another color - whether it be blue, red, orange...an accent color - I think that would look great. With regards to colour. "a young man haunted by his past" would suggest dark to me. Black, very dark blues, maybe dark greys.
Also agree with the spine. It needs to be flipped, or the libraries and bookstores will be putting your book upsidedown.
To be honest, I don't mind the photofilter. It gives a nice effect, and while designers will see it for what it really is, most teens will not. It could be produced a little better - instead of just cutting to the solid brown? There's also a lot of that wall...not so interesting. If there's more to the picture on the left, I might move it over a bit.
The spacing on the type on the cover needs some help. "The Rainy" and "Season" shouldn't be separated so much, or they won't flow. The author's name is a bit hard to read.
The text on the spine - the outline makes it really hard to read. I would continue with the font you used on the cover, in solid.
Sorry if any of it sounded a bit harsh.
