Default Need some review help for new friends

Hello again to all.

The team that developed wix.com, asked me to review it, but since I am just starting in graphic design, I told them I will ask the people that helped me before and let them know.

http://www.wix.com

So, how is it?

Nice site, clean and direct. Nav is a little big and content is a little small but. thats about all I can comment on.

Based on a 'webpage speed report' it took this long to load your site (approx)
14.4K 333.98 seconds
28.8K 167.39 seconds
33.6K 143.59 seconds
56K 86.48 seconds
ISDN 128K 27.04 seconds
T1 1.44Mbps 3.08 seconds

The total size of your external multimedia is 399988 bytes, which is over 20K. Consider optimizing your multimedia files for size, or replacing them with lower-bandwidth alternatives, or eliminating them altogether.

Also the site does not appear to be Valid HTML 4.01 Transitional, which resulted in 29 validation errors.

Personally I think site uses a bit too much Flash; when I entered the designers page it had several loading bars for each image it was trying to load, and I'm on 10mb connection! I think the content should take more president in the design.

If it's a presentation for a life-saving treatment, the time lag is acceptable. If it's a site to make animated GIFs with a funny extension (SWF), it's a bandwidth hog.

What flashers always miss -- people who get broadband are more impatient not less. 20 or 30 seconds download time on dialup is noticeable. 20 seconds on broadband means your site is broken.

Ideally, you would not have a graphic designer (or designers) review this. You'd put the site through a properly conducted user test. Reviews are largely from non-users, who will not become users.

When you actually try to use Wix, other problems occur. Labels overlap, hampering readability for users. "Create a Stunning Website" gets covered by "oh yeah, Wix websites are search engine friendly"

And nothing on the site compelled me to create an account. Seeing I have Texty and Cushy CMS accounts, this would seem to indicate future problems.

You should have some users actually go through, get memberships, create a site or two, and watch them. Don't ask what they think, see what they do. Consult with an interaction designer who can evaluate an interface, not an interface decorator with personal preferences.

^^Maybe my computer is just fast, but didn't take more than a couple of seconds to load for me.

Anyway, I like it, as far as it's professional, and looks like a good resource something I would be interested in, but if it's supposed to impress as far as design, I think it looks good, don't get me wrong, just nothing unique or inspirational. Though if being innovative really isn't the goal at all... then I say it's good all around! :)
