Default Beta Front Page

I have very nearly finished the front page..

Thought I would share my latest creation

The links are not live yet, its just to give me a feel.

w3c uncomplient due to an swf file but I plan to change to a gif anyway.
The content of the swf file is for test only, :)

LINK

I love it , and im going with this style for the rest of the site.

valid comments welcome

Mmmmm design-wise it looks good.

Few things to polish though:
Background dots - these create good contrast by also the moire and creat shimmer and distraction.I'd look at fading them back a tad?

Your banner image - the cut out looks dodgy - and not in a styled way and the text does not excite me at all. If have that as a image or flash - why not use it to whck a little more design style into it. A little work at that will be a great attention puller, next to your image...

You have this really nice diagonal feature that you could make more of in relation to this banner?

Thanks for your comments Richard.

The concept for this website is to look like a poster...a web poster if you like,
to target my audience - who will mostly be looking for posters and leaflets etc.
So the site will appeal to my potential customers.
It also shows humour, creativity and boldness.
Using my son's image should also help to show a softness, warmth and empathetic approach to my work.

:)

Also I am considering some icon type graphics for each of the sub headings "what we do etc..."

The text banner next to the photo gets lost in the background. You could lower the opacity of the dots as was suggested or you could also try a bolder font. I think the image of your son really pops out, but then I also expect the text to pop as well. Perhaps a very faint drop shadow or outer glow would help to separate it from the background. I would definitely suggest moving the text off of the photo and giving it more padding between the photo and the right border of the container.

A few things to look at. Make sure all your meta data is all lowercase, delete REVISIT-AFTER you won't be updating it every 15 days and google knows it.

Also try

deconcept » You’ve got your good thing, and I’ve got mine » SWFObject: Javascript Flash Player detection and embed script

For your flash

It think that it is a good jumping off point. I like your choice in in colour and imagery.

I think that If yo are trying to make it like a poster, you could do a number of different ways, if you are going down this route I would suggest that you go back to historical posters and use reflect some elements that seem to be consistent. However I think that your style choice is good if you are happy with it.

I like your font choice for Bright Bean, however, design is slightly difficult to read for a logo, you shouldn't ever really space out lowercase letters. And I think that the Bean light bulb could be toned down a little bit as far as colour and given a little more style.

I think the image of your son is a great photo, I agree that the clipping, the way it is now is distracting (specifically around his head).

All in all I think that it is good, just a couple of details to mess around with really. Good Work!

Type is a little better, but it does not it me as much as the image. perhaps play with the important parts of this and create a hierarchy:

I imagine When, Last Time, This Happy, are your most vital parts?
