Default CD Packaging for a Ska Band

after trying to find a vectorized template for cd packaging on the internet (and coming up empty), I decided to just design one myself. here it is being used to show a mockup of a cd packaging design i recently finished for a client. They're a ska band out of chicago and they wanted a 'graffiti' look to the design.it took me a while, but it was worth it now that i have a full customizable vector template for a jewel case and cd front. i just gotta make some more for an angled version and for the back of the jewel case.

it's already finalized, but feel free to be as nice or as brutal as you want.

Looks nice, I like the way the splats aren't too overdone and the text is still readable

thanks. funny thing is I think i'm more proud of the photorealism of my template than of the actual cd design, lol.

Jewel cases are so ugly though. Digipacks all the way these days.

I'd agree with paddy to a point, but even digipacks are a bit crap. I am amused at hoe the industry seems to have gone on from square jewelcases and thought 'how can we improve this?' - wait - lets round the corners....

Is this template merely to show off the design to the client and on your portfolio?

yeah, i agree. jewel cases are fairly ugly. digipacks aren't much better.

any of you seen Jewelboxing - Super Jewel Box Packaging System - CD and DVD Cases ? their's are pretty nice. they can send you free samples. i actually requested the samples like a day and a half ago and they came today. don't know if that means they're just good or they're desperate for people to buy them, lol. my only annoyance with them is that they are sometimes a pain to open, as you have to press the side to unlock them, but then with them locking they won't come open when you don't want it to.

i'll see about providing my template for others. i need to clean it up and organize it a bit more though first.

more for use in my portfolio when i get my new site up. client told me it may be a while before they actually get their cd ready for production, so i figured a fairly realistic looking mockup will work in the meantime.

Digipacks aren't the round corner jobs. I'm talking about the folded card packaging.

Example:

Oh yeah I got that, I was just off on a rant.... Super jewel is the name of them. They are heaps better than a standard jewel but give it a few months and they'll be old hat too. The honest thing is, with flagging street sales and things moving to download, you have to wonder if they are just not bothering to try and encourage sales in the area at all. I mean, most people would still go out for a CD, if it was perhaps in a nice package with a booklet, photos, dvd - that sort of thing.
