OK. So we all know the actions in Photoshop can fall flat on their faces. The rosewood 2 action isn't very convincing, for example, too bitty and grainy. But it IS possible to enhance the rosewood to make it look quite realistic.
I show you.
Allllllrighty then - step one, open up photoshop , create a document let us say 500 X 500 in RGB and run the rosewood 2 action.
Gaussian blur it by 2.0. Once you've done this, flip the canvas by 90 degrees in any direction, press x to reset your colours and duplicate layer and then run the "fibers" filter, mess about with the settings - but the secret to any artifact of nature is "imperfection", not perfection.
Now the next step depends on how dark you like your wood. As a default, i like to switch the layer mode to "multiply" and lower the opacity to 63%
you end up with this:
As you can see, a vast improvement.
With a reflective surface (i used a cruise lounge, being an ideal setting for all things rosewood) and some lighting effects, you can really bring out the suggestion of wood here.
