Hi!
Is someone here familiar with the following problem? I prepare a mock up layout in FW. I slice it. I export to DW. Later, in DW, I decide I want to change a certain slice from HTML to image. I do this by roundtrip editing via FW. When I press 'done' and return to Dreamweaver, the changes are not retained and the problems start. When I try and to a second roundtrip pass I get all sorts of errors. -Internal error -The structure of the HTML table that you are editing does not match the table structure in the Fireworks source PNG. Updating within Fireworks will overwrite the table in the HTML document. I can't seem to change the slice properties via roundtripping. I have to go back to the source Png, do the changes there, and export the HTML from scratch, losing all CSS style information. Great. Does anyone perhaps have a suggestion? (ps both FW and DW are CS3) |

What version of FW & Dreamweaver?
Be sure your layers are unlocked ? or locked when you press done? There is a setting in Fireworks for how it updates the exported slice images. Be sure its set to update the HTML and file names correctly. I haven't had this problem since I had a mix matched version of the two products and I think it was something in my FW settings if I'm not mistaken. generally, I try to update the original png as a whole now when I'm doing it.. but thats only if I'm changing the original mockup. The future of Adobe GoLive In November, 2006, Adobe announced that Adobe Dreamweaver, the industry leader in web design and development, would be integrated into Adobe Creative Suite® 3, and that the next version of Adobe GoLive would be available as a standalone product. We expect to make this new version, Adobe GoLive 9, available in late Summer 2007 in English, French, German, and Japanese. Until then, we will continue to sell and support GoLive CS2. Please refer to the GoLive FAQ (PDF, 120k) for more details. Further information about GoLive 9 will be available when we ship the new version.

1) Both are CS3 2) I got no locked layers 3) Do you have any idea as to which exact parameter or setting I need to change? 4) You say you update the original png as a whole. Does that mean not via roundtripping? Do you access the file from FW and export it to overwrite the htm. file? How do you retain the CSS styles then? Cheers! ahhh yes it is a laying issue then I believe. and here is a big fat tutorial on the proper laying techniques and slicing in Fireworks. A guy that posts often in here and is quite the Fireworks Guru type, contributed to an article listed here...
Adobe Article: Taking a Fireworks comp to a CSS-based layout GordonMac and yes.. if I were going to update an existing webpage design, I would take the entire layered and named png and update it as a whole so I could get my exact alignment on the slicing. I may only exprt a small portion of the sliced work though depending on what exactly it was I were changing.

Right, I'll check out the tutorial. In the meantime I found something rather weird: If I export a fresh .htm file out of fireworks and start roundtripping the first time I edit that file, everything is fine! I can go back and forth between FW and DW and everything behaves perfectly. I can edit/ change all slices.
It is only after I save the .htm file in DW, close and reopen it that the problem begins. Perhaps this might be a clue? |

yeah I dunno man.. I don't edit mine like that. I export the slices as gif's and jpg's and edit those. I think you are trying to export the slices incorrectly. I set export to images only, no html.
