I think, at least in the creative field, being able to show that creativity and knowledge is significant. If you come in looking smart edgy and creative as well as speaking it, even better.

I had an interview this summer lasting for about an hour. For the better half we just spoke like two designers, asking questions back and forth, opinions, the state of the design community, significance of design to culture, history, etc. It was completely natural, because i went into it as a fellow designer, not as someone looking/needing/desperate for/ a job. Keep that in mind. If you can eliminate the interview-part of a job interview that can be the single most powerful maneuver.

There was once as the story goes a big marketing firm in Milton Keynes, that just about every marketing person went for. The manager of the company said he didn't want any falseness so he sat a friend in the reception area talking to the interviewees and telling them the old 'imaginge them in their underwear and you'll relax' tale, and when the interviewees went into the interview the boss was actually sat in his underwear and no-one knew how to react apart from 3.

They got the jobs and get paid alot for being prepared for any situation.

I had an interview last Thurs for a trainee designer position... and the director sat and talked for a straight 80mins, then asked me t o come back for a 2nd interview! How bizarre!
I know they like to talk about how great their company is and how they drive a Dodge Viper but my god, I didnt get a word in edgeways!

mm..
Don't know if i can ask my question in this thread but.. it's quite a similar subject.
I've just recently done BA in graphic art and design and now i'm trying to get a job..
I've said that before, but once again im not english and i didnt do my degree here also i have little experience, basically because my studies where mainly about being creative and focusing on studying rather than joining some real bussiness projects.
So as you can imagine it's really hard to find a job as a graphic designer here where employers are looking for ppl with at least 3 years experience etc..

That's quite along post so to those that didnt have tie to read it all:)
What were you saying on your first interview/ how where you looking for your first job?
Do you know how to get on any internships or anything similar?

Thanks for any aswers:)
