All logo's should be drawn in vector, you can use vector shapes in photoshop but it's just bad practice

One really good reason is that vector is infinitely scaleable.
Psd is linited to your resolution at the point of creation.
We have all cursed at the logo that is 80 x 80 pixels that goes to a print ad.
Add gradients to something like that and you have to recreate it. Then you have to identify the font. Then you have to work from RGB to CMYK or PMS.

Hope this helps.

Illustrator, definitely. You can also customize type (outline type then use the pen tool) in Illustrator, unlike Photoshop, and you can be more precise in your lines and points. Although PS has vector capabilities, it still renders everything in pixels.

so from that am I correct in assuming that Illy renders everything in percent??

I dont have Illustrator at the moment, only Photoshop CS3, but Im saving up for an imac (20 inch 2.0GHz) and Im half way there and will have access to all adobe programs to do with graphic and web design through a company who my uncle works for.

In the mean time however am I best off just doing what I have done so far? i.e. create the logo at 300dpi and as big as I will need it for now?

Thanks all, Phil

P.s. what do you think of this:

and does Illy automatically create what you make in vector graphics?

Default Rasterize Vibration

by default, Illustrator creates vector artwork. You can rasterize within Illy as well.
Photoshop is raster. (does anybody hear reggae music?)
You will have to be savvy with the pen drawing tool, bezier curves etc.
There are lots of easy tutorials to get you used to the concept.

Free access to programs like Illustrator is a HUGE bonus

Ok, this has been a real big eye opener, thanks everyone.

Looks like Ill just be doing what I can in photoshop at the moment and once I have my imac I'll probably buy myself a graphics tablet too!!

And yes, I understand how lucky I am with the free access - the company which shall not be named have been really impressed with my work (photography including) so far and have offered me work experiance there too so that I can get my ehad around a mac before I buy my own!

Thanks everyone!

The logo at the moment still looks a little random, the little dots around it don't really add to it.
