Dark - Custom Google Search

I've been playing around with some ideas concerning the Google Custom Search API. It's really neat as far as I'm concerend and I've put together a Google Black or Dark Google. It works the same as google pulls the same results, is powered by google etc, but its dark. (more my style).

I figured I'd post it here under showcase as it's gotten quite a bit of positive feedback in the 18 or so hours its been live.

hey thanks for the feedback guys. I added a new feature to it, sounds like no one is really keen to it and thats cool. It's definitely for a certain type of audience. I noticed that everyone I've showed it to says one of two things. 1. ) I love it 2. )Its too dark. All of the 'coders' I've shown seem to dig it.

Anyway I added the ability to insert quick links at the top right and lighted up the logo a bit (i've been told it was too dark :) ).

do you guys have any ideas that would make it more pleasant? I'm not going to change the fact that its dark, as that is the purpose, but I would love to hear any ideas if you guys have them.

I think using the regular Google logo layout of


except in the font value ("color") of


would be very helpful. I really like your idea, but it needs tweaking. Notice that the regular Google logo has a 'slogan' (i.e. canada). This could say 'dark'.

By doing this the aesthetic of your page would look much better, and the concept of it being an alternative to google's 'light' version would be better communicated.

Also, the word "search" on your button REALLY must be moved down, find a way.

I appreciate the feedback. My first thoughts were to do what your talking about Lyrics, but it makes me nervous to use the same font style for my logo. (I'm not Google and if someone was using my logo without permission, I'd be irritated)

What browser are you using? I've tested it in IE6, FF (both linux and windows) and everything seems in order with the Search text.

Thanks alison for the kind words, the sites getting a ton of traffic. I'm actually pretty surprised. I bought a domain yesterday for it and set it up proper. dark - powered by Google Custom Search, godark.us. I've added the ability to create and account and save your links / access them from anywhere as well as the ability to read your favorite rss feeds through the site. (buttons at top right). (cleverly getting around Diggs block on their RSS feeds :) oh how I love php )
