When you say WIP to the final results do you mean work in progress, as in you think they aren't done? (well, actually, i agree but need to move on from this project. Being the creator i see all the 'wrong' things with the design, of which there still are many [mostly] subtle issues)

I forgot to post the English-only version of the ad. This was a bit funny, because initially i was under the impression their would be two ads, one English, one Chinese. When i discovered it was to be one bilingual ad, there was a bit of a headache in the studio. After several hours the typography was worked out, and we were happy. Then when i was asked for an English only version on top of the bilingual, i actually found it harder... =0

It did work out though, and i think it has turned out decent, but somewhat "empty" and lacking compared to the bilingual version.

I'm not sure if i have the time to teach you much, but i can always give advice about places to learn, and offer constructive criticism. I also have huge amounts to learn myself. The important thing is you practice a lot. The adobe suite, at least the core apps of it that you use, should feel second nature. This includes knowing most hotkeys by heart and instinct (instinct becasue the alt/shift/crtl keys often have logical modifers on other operations, for instance alt often modifies a command to skip a step or slightly tune it). Thsnks guys. Merone i would argue less is not only sometimes more, but usually more. That said, i also think based on my research the piece fits reasonably into the Cuban cannon. There's a lot that could be done to improve the fit, of course.

But thanks for the comment. It's really helpful to hear constructive criticism. I think the biggest flaw at the moment is the overall tone. The mood feels very flat, and i think when i post the next version to go in later magazines, people will see an improvement. What i mean by tone is that from top to bottom the magazine ad feels the same at any point. It doesn't offer highs or lows, and so the piece doesn't tell any kind of moving "visual story". The desktops on the previous page improve the situation, you can tell they've been darkened at the bottom, lightening at the top. I will look into developing this potential more.
