Drewbie - Thanks!
Flick - It is simply choosing something you want to achieve. In this case, I came up with a load of different short phrases and in my head, they each have a certain treatment. So this was literally an experiment to find that treatment.
Lead - it wouldn't take that long now to get the initial type down, since I've worked how to do it to the effect I wanted. Put that down to experimenting time. I think it's important to play with little elements or techniques like this, so you can use them against client's work, without going massively over on your hours... In this case, it is about using a path to slice the type, then working out the right level of angles and sheering for each part. I started with the verticals and then went to the others. I think placed on some rough shading, before going back in and recombineing the characters correctly and redoing the shades as gradients....
But I tried all sorts of warp envelopes, flips, meshs and stuff to get the effect I wanted....
