Advice on Purchasing Mac System

Hello everyone,

I do most of the graphic design for my small company and want to invest in a Mac system. I have been working on a PC for the past 7 years and want to switch over to a Mac. I don't have a clue what to buy. I need the system to produce a 30 page catalog with color images.... plus all the little jobs that are needed for branding with my company. In other words, I need a purchase a system, software, monitor, etc. from scratch.

Many years ago I worked on a PowerMac. I am familiar with Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop. I don't have any idea what is "new" and what I should buy. Of course, I want the best value for the money.

Can anyone give me some straight forward advice about what to buy? I don't want to go into the Mac store and ask because I am leary they will sense my lack of knowledge and sell me waaaayyyy too much!

Im kinda in the same position as you right now although Ive got a fairly good idea of what Im buying:

2.0GHz 20inch imac
2GB RAM
320GB Hardrive
Microsoft Office applications for it
3 year cover

Additional programs - Photoshop, Dreamwevaer, Illustrator etc

Do you know anyone who is a teacher or a student at university? My parents are teachers and therefore I can get an educational discount. All of the above (minus the additional programs) comes to around £1057 for me :D

iMac Intel Core Duo / Core 2 Duo

and a copy of CS3 would be perfect.
