…and if they are asking it's because they are being smart about it.

There are other softwares besides Illy that some up-and-coming designers use because it's affordable to them. As long as you can make a logo using vectors and save it as an EPS it really doesn't matter what it's created it in. So if you can't afford Illy don't sweat it, you'll get there soon enough.

But my preference has been Illy since 1988.
