crikey–I've been working on estimates-this looks like more fun.

with design art like this, is it really concidered "graphic design?" or Illustration. Would employers hire an Illustrator to specialize in this for a magazine ad, or would the graphic designer handle this a long with page layouts.

Photography & illustration are visual elements that can be used separately or together to create images that we call "graphic design."

i guess my question was, is it common, or acceptable for the graphic designer to be the one who provides the visual elements (photography and illustrations) in the work feild, if he or she is capable. Or would the company have a photographer, and illustrator provide that aspect of the project then passing on to the graphic designer. can all this be done by the same person?

Some designers are excellent photographers or illustrators as well (or are even able to write copy) and they can provide these services. It is less likely for a company to have an in-house illustrator or photographer nowadays, although it was not uncommon years ago.
It makes more sense to hire specialists as you need them and hire them according to their specific strengths.
