Default What design style is this?

For some time i've been seeing a similar cartoon like design style, both online and in uk magazines; computer shopper appears to have them quite regularly.

An example of this style is found here - in the form of the vectorised male character 'Professor Daumen'.

Does anyone know what this style is called, if any and does anyone on the forum have any experience of creating such styled work?

This style is really popular in webcomics, a community I used to be sort of active in. I'm not really sure what it's called, I like it though.
