Default help with monitor, DTP

Dear All,
I have read some of the posts and looked a bit on the web for new monitor(s)

I currently have two old Apple display multi scan 1705. Until now I have been callibrating my monitor by eye referencing to a print, but didn't require too much visual accuracy as most colours where pantone.

Now I need to be able to send artwork to print and need to make sure the colors are accurate (peace of mind).
I have bought Spyder2 suite and for now have calibrated my sony laptop to deal with that, but I deally I would like to update my mac workstation with new monitors.

It seems most apple users are very happy with apple LCDs, but I haven't seen any mention of Iiyama monitors, which I believe have a good reputation...

Ideally, I will have either 2x17" or 2x19", probably 5:4,
But I am also thinking going 22" widescreen (I have read some comments about the fact the widescreen widen the screen/images)

Could anyone help/give their views?

thanks a million,

best
d

Personally the only LCD monitor I would consider for colour critical work would be a Lacie and probably then only the 500 series.

Default LCD vs CRT

Dear Arkady,

thanks a lot for your reply. I know about those professional monitors, but I simply don't have the budget for it.

What do you use yourself??

thanks again,
d

I have a dual monitor setup. I have an NEC LCD1701 for menus and simple operations and a Samsung 21" 1100 for workflow. I did have a 22" LaCie electronblue CRT monitor until it packed up last year. LaCie have stopped making CRT monitors it would appear and I haven't yet had the chance to try out one of their LCD monitors in anger, but I imagine I will end up getting one sooner or later.

I too have a dual setup, but with two old Apple display multi scan 1705. Until now I have been callibrating my monitor by eye crossreferencing with print, but didn't require too much visual accuracy as most colours where pantone.

Now I need to be able to send artwork to print and need to make sure the colors are accurate (peace of mind).
I have bought Spyder2 suite and for now have calibrated my sony laptop to deal with that, but ideally I would like to update my mac workstation with new monitors.

I can't afford more than £300 in total.

Designers seems to be very happy with apple LCDs, but I haven't seen any mention of Iiyama monitors, which I believe have a fairly good reputation (comparable to apple)... Samsung SyncMaster seems ok too...

I know Lacie or Eizo would be what I should go for, but I only need something 'good enough' (better than my settings, 85-90% accurate).

Arkady, I imagine you don't know about high street monitors, but thanks for your feedback!

I have a 20" Apple monitor that came with my G5. Rather nice too.
