Default Portfolio or Design Blog

I hate it when assignments are sticky....anyways, 'nuff 'bout my problems....

I'm writing an article especially for graphic design students...and need your help, ummm, ur views rather, on it...

the question is, as a designer (graphic, illustrative, web, print, ad...wateverrr...) would you prefer to have a conventional portfolio (showcase) site or a design blog???

a conventional portfolio site, meaning...u know...u click on thumbnails and it takes u to the full view of a piece..... separate links, about, contact pages....and the works...

a design blog would be more like a playground than a showcase......a blog of all ur designs which i scroll and see. categories, tags, contact info and blah-blah all on the same page and u know wat i mean, right?

ur opinions wud REALLY help.....

thanks! and

p.s.:- the really helpful ones might get a mention on the ruddy article....hehe!
no no...I'm not bribing! :chris:

I've got to say the best design portfolio's are usually the simplest sites with really nice work. Let the work speak for itself and don't make the site too over the top.

The trouble I would have with a blog portfolio is the scrolling. While user interaction is so important scrolling doesn't count it's not a good idea. Also tags are great for some kind of sites but can be seen as a poor form of navagation for a site.

So I'm for the conventional portfolio, keep it simple and let the work do the talking. Hope it helps.

Blog portfolio's don't really work unless the work you do is really interesting you do alot of it in short periods of time and people are going to want to check back and keep updated. I always like a simple flash portfolio to show of work and make it come allive.
