Default Portfolio Advice

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of updating my portfolio and was after some advice on the best format to use. A friend of mine told me about a company that can use images of my print work to construct a hard back book A4 in size which I thought would look quite professional. They normally offer the service to people who want to put together a photo album and allow the customer to create their own layout for each spread.

I was going to supply them with jpegs for each page so they can put together a book with details on each project accompanying a picture of what was produced. I will take printed copies of certain projects as well so any interviewer can actually handle what I have worked on.

Or should I go down the traditional route and display my work mounted on board and carry it in the usual portfolio case?

Any other suggestions would be helpful!

Cheers
Dan

The book thing might be a good idea as it will be a bit different from what they are used to, what are you planning on using your portfolio for may i ask???

Well.. my first suggestion would be to Introduce Yourself (at an interview or maybe even here).

For example, it might be polite to say, "hi, I'm ,,, This is what i do, etc.. etc.. that's conveniently called INTRODUCE YOURSELF... and located HERE

LOL... now that said. I'm diggin the idea of the book. Pretty cool, shows your creative talents extend beyond the boards... a thinker. I might even make a collage A4 card showcasing your work with contact and website info on it somehow. Leave that with prospective employers. It would certainly stand out and they would be reminded of you often as they tried to figure out what to do with the card, they would be thinking "what can I do with this person".. not a bad marketing ploy.

Maybe even be something you could set displays in local shops, etc.

yeah for job interviews i'd look into the book idea, sounds interesting. Just wasn't sure if you might be using it for Uni course interviews in which case they prefer a traditional style 'folio to look through with you ( i think )

Nice one, I think I will investigate the book idea further then. Apparently it only costs about £30 to produce so not much more expensive than producing a traditional portfolio!

Thanks for all your comments...speak soon.
