I was a 'member' of a local agency, when i was looking for a design job (not that they helped at all!!!) and i must still be on their mailing list...

I see... yeah, that's good info for you UK based folks. I was thinking it was some HR tactic; telling you if you're hired for a position then your salary would fall in that range.

Yeah, but oddly with so many people wanting a designer job, they can keep the salaries low. Though still, if you pay peanuts, you will get monkeys...

My salary is yet to fall in that average is higher than some of what I appear to be offered. If you're lucky, you can go demand more from the offset but few companies will give it to you...

In my opinion, the salaries and/or wages earned per hour of work has been greatly reduced by people from countries I would rather not specify. For instance, I had been working with a local business that decided my bid for a custom PHP job was too high. They hired a "local designer" that ended up being from Pakistan (on the other side of the world from us), because their price was nearly a third of what I had quoted. A couple weeks later I heard back from that company, and they were in distress because their experience with the other designer was so poor. I mocked them, and we haven't done business since ... but it sure felt good!
