help, im suffocated by the boss! lol

hey guys, im sick of the 9-5 under the boss' thumb do what he says even tho its crap kind of way basically:

i would love to set up my own tiny wee shop to sell services such as canvas art, photo restore, logo design, general graphics design but what way would be best for me to go around doing this??

i would love to become a freelance designer but im really scared of quiting my job to do this and it all back fires! has any1 else been in my shoes about this?? and if so how did you straighten it out and what steps did you take??

i realised im not the type of guy that takes orders from 'the boss' i want to work for myself!

    guidence please!

I know the feeling. Myself and authority figures do not mix well.

I'm curious to hear what other people say as i might end up freelancing alot more after college if i don't get a 9-5 job.
I would suggest though that you don't quit your job quite yet. If you can, get a few small jobs that you can do in your free time just to get a feel for it and possibly build up a reputation for yourself. Get clients to spread your name around, maybe make a few cold calls. A website to showcase your talents would also help.

I've thought about the setting up of my own agency/project thing. I think many have.

Oh, well i would say that the best way to start out is to do a few simple html tutorials, then some css ones.
If you haven't got any kind of experience with even html, i'd stay away from flash. You'd need to learn actionscript to make anything decent. Even then, you still get the whiners who always complain about all flash websites.

Start off with a basic html website and build from there. Dreamweaver is a tool that can help you build a website with no html knowledge. Personally i don't recommend it because it's messy and you spend as long cleaning up its code as making the site. And if you know how to clean up the code, you don't need dreamweaver. It is useful in some ways though for its auto-complete feature and the inbuilt references it has.

Well, you don't need any special software.
Notepad would do just fine, notepad++ is what i use (it colours the various tags to help keep track of things). If you have dreamweaver, you could just use that, but try to avoid using the design interface of it.
