It's a text editor...
.:: NOTEPAD++ ::.
You type html into it, save it as a whatever.html ...

Seriously simpletouch, start small.... get yourself to HTML Goodies It was one of the best resources I used when self-teaching myself HTML and basic CSS.

Setting up by yourself in some parts is easy, some parts extremely difficult (everyones experiences are different). I find myself doing just as much paperwork, dealing with clients, emails, updating, etc as I do doing the actual work. And its damned hard. I would get some experience under your belt first, wether it be further education, training, employment... try everything!

Get your ass on google and start bookmarking tutorial sites, and articles... try Adobe for their knowledge base, search this forum, and practice practice practice!! lol

Of course for all its misgivings, dreamweaver and Golive do place one thing first. The design.

Remember in your pursuit of error-free, perfect code to actually create something user friendly and something you actually want to surf around.

If you are happy using Windows Notepad, you can use that if you are dubious about Notepad++. But as Dreamweaver does, it just makes it a bit easier visually identifiying different types of code.
Any bother give is a yell!

I'd say why don't you work on getting yourself setup if you want a new job to do work for others on your own terms and ideas, but you gotta be able to make the transition. So don't just quit today, and tomorrow be sitting there going.. oh boy where do i start. lol

That's a good point. It is far easier to start working on your own stuff while still having a job than from nothing. Obviously keep it quiet at work, you don't want to get sacked if you r boss things you'll leave.
