Design Contests, is it worth it?
I have been in this business a long time, mostly self employed. Married now, in a full time job, a bit more flush, I entered one this year. I entered three liquor packages I designed 2 won. This was GDA USA. I loved winning but my employers could care less and I had to pay out of pocket. My three submissions cost over $300 US and than they said it would be an additional $250 each to have the winners published, plus $50 ea for extra copies of the award. In the end I spent close to $900. So it feels great but why do it? It costs so much! It seems like a money maker for them.
