Regardless of the double identity, I posted my comments on Logosauce. It is a ripoff and I may not submit anything to the competitions anymore. And if I do, all my logos will have my copyright information on them and anyone who comes close to ripping off an 'original' idea of mine, will be sued.

When I say original, I mean the logos that most definitely would not be traditional for the company that the logo is being designed for.... a better word would be unusual.

I would suggest other designers do the same. Putting a copyright symbol on your logo (while not required) will make it clear that you value your work and remind people that it is copyrighted.

Now I'll go back to my deadline. : )

Luxury Brand (Conrad) and the other more afforable althou the lines have been blurred with the onset of the resorts(Hilton) - It two brands althou under one parent company - technically...

Hopefully none of you have any hard feelings or anything as i have none ... just wondering why some have taken so much offence.

I just posted this in Logosauce.....no offense to you TommyLogic, but I've been working with copyright lawyers for years.

Here's what I posted:

Quote:
TOMMYLOGIC...."And yes competitions are just like spec work.. somebody can take them and change them slightly… and you loose. If you didn’t know that’s how spec jobs work."
This is actually not accurate information. Spec work does NOT mean that someone can take your design. It is still illegal to take a logo and change it to make it yours unless it is changed by over 80%. There is a law called "Derivative Copyright" and it exists to protect artists work... be it spec or paid for. The artist owns the copyright ....including derivative rights once that art is created, even if the client pays for the logo art outright, THE ARTIST must give derivative rights up in writing to the client. The reason this law exists is because it's not fair to an artist for some other artist to come along and just change their artwork and now call it theirs. The original artist has first refusal rights for changes on their original work. This gives the original artist the right to say that THEY in fact created the original art.

There was a case where an actual artist painted a mural on a portable wall and had it installed in his client's home. Well that artist came back to get a photo of the painting some time later and found out that the owner/client painted over it. The artist sued for derivative rights (changing his art) and also damages and he won. The sad thing is that it was a gallery owner that was the client.

Word to the wise: Don't change someone else's work and call it your own. It may come back to haunt you in monetary and professional ways.

On the other hand, I commend George for compensating Mockup.

yeah here too about an hour ago...
National Speed | Logo Sauce |Communication - Graphic Design Forum and Web Design Forum

And yes I know how that goes with the copyright law too.. and here's how it plays out... a lawyer will argue...
This logo has completely different colors.. the typeface is different, the shadows, the forward tilt, the only thing that may be of slight resemblence is the N/S and that has at least a 30% difference from the original.

And no offense taken Cwilk.. but you know as wel as I do how that plays out.. thas why instead of sitting on here and TALKING about it.. I actually DID somethign about it.. George was already on top of it, and completely unaware fo all the petty behind his back talk going on..

Once again.. COMMUNICATE... there were three people involved in this.. how many of them talked to the guy stroking the $$$ check?? Come on people, get a grip, what is this 6th grade (no offense Hardan.. LOL)..

Logosauce is becoming a bit of a farce isn't it? Sorry everybody but if i was mockup / kaimere (i'm not though, ha ha) i would be absolutely livid right now. I'm jumping from that sinking ship :chris:

I can't belive people are arguing over that amount of money, it should just be a learning experience especially if the young lad was only 17.

I won't open an email for less than $800
