About Windows of Opportunity in 2009
York Museums Trust, supported by Visit York, are piloting an innovative digital design programme to address the visual impact of empty shops in York city centre.
The scheme will look to dress empty shop windows with external, high quality vinyls which will feature contemporary digital designs that respond to their setting.
Designers are encouraged to submit digital images on the theme of ‘Windows of Opportunity in 2009’, reacting positively to the changing world and looking to the future. We are looking for work that is new, contemporary and forward thinking.
Two specific sites in the city centre have been selected for this pilot and so two designs will be selected from all submissions to feature on these windows as part of the launch of this initiative. The designers will be credited on the windows – a fantastic way to exhibit your work to the world!
The deadline for submissions is noon on Thursday 7th May 2009.
We will announce the initial selections w/c May 18th .
To submit your work:
1. download the Original versions of the images you want to work on (click on the 'All Sizes' button to get the higher resolutions)
Original Set of Photos
2. work on them
- restrict your changes to the area of the actual windows
- allow for the fact that we'll want to add credits roughly 25cm high at the base of each window
3. upload your work - you'll need a flickr account and to request membership of this group to do this.
We'll come back to the chosen designers for hi-res versions suitable for large print formats.
Good luck.
