From what I've researched, its nearly always beneficial to have something signed in a way of a contract from the client. Granted it might not be relevant for a 2 min job for a tenner, but for anything more I'd get someting in writing.
Else the Revenue and/or solicitor's are going to have a really hard time defending you...

Well Ive had a few conversations and we have verbally agreed a price and deposit and he said he is happy for me to wait to start work until the signed contract is recieved...my ads helping me draw up a simple contract as Im only 16 and Im emailing it to him on Sunday...
