Don't do it. It's like having a set price on a house build. It's just not gonna work.
Hi all, I have been researching a lot of web sites and it appears that some companies are advertising how much they charge in web design packages and some don't.
I personally, do not as I think that each client needs vary. In saying this I run my own telemarketing campaign where I do state to potential clients where the price starts "from". I was wondering what the communities thoughts are on weather or not to advertise any prices on a professional web design site.
Any success stories from doing so and any downfalls that may have come from putting web design package prices.
I'm not sure whether I should go there or not. Any input into this topic im sure would be of benefit to any one else running a web design business.

Agreed. It's just not realistic. Even after you know exactly what they need, the best you can do is give them an estimate of how much it'll cost. Posting prices only works if you're selling templates or something.
Thanks all. Im glad im not alone in thinking that its a bad idea to advertise prices.
I used to like showing price, but now I do not. I believe its better to give each client a custom quote based on the complexity of the work. It can make you more money in the long run and get you more jobs.
Try having them fill out a project estimate form that you respond back to within 24 hours.
I agree on not showing costs. A real good reason for this is that you might know going in that a perspective client will be difficult so it's best to price accordingly. We always add an additional 50% on top of what we would normally charge when the impossible person shows up. And if you really think a client will be a pain, mark your prices up even more to make a project worth the headache if they hire you.
You don't need to advertise prices as such but that doesn't mean that you just don't place it all together. I believe that you should have 5-6 price ranges varying for different segments of clients. From that they can choose. Keep a price section from where they can check out what you are offering but on the main page you must advertise your portfolio so that people remember the quality of your work.
Check the forum often for the latest design announcements. Everything from graphic design and web design, to films and music. Estetica is a great place for people to get together and help each other out.
