Default WOOT for photoshop.... 5?

after months of demanding photoshop for my work terminal i finally was given a copy of 5.5 to install.
better than nothing i guess.
supposedly there is an upgrade to 7 on the way and then after that another upgrade to CS3.
i don't pretend to know business strategy but that just seems odd.

GIMP is great except for it's right click hell interface.
it's best for textures though.
image retouching and photo merges are better in photoshop.

can't really switch to GIMP anyway.
everyone uses photoshop in the department so if i changed then all the files i worked on they wouldn't be able to use.
(they never have used GIMP so they are unwilling to learn)
