Why have hit counters

This is a great example of overuse of pointless tools.



You've got everything from 5 hits to 52. All this says to your user is that even your counters are unreliable and stats could be just lies.

What really is the point??

I only like hit counters that provide stats like pages visited (so you can see whats hot and whats not on your site), geogrpahical info (to get an idea of where your audience is coming from and adjust content to suit), screen resolutions and which browsers they are using (so you can optimise your site).

Some even report how they got to you (via which search engine or external link and even what search string they used in a search engine)

Anyone know of any good counters that tick most of these boxes and available for free to use on a small business site????

Most web hosting offer very detailed statistics for the website, so stuff like that is kinda pointless...
